Capstone Employer Project
Warm greetings to my fellow employer. I Jyotsna, welcome you to my capstone employer project page. Before I get started, let me introduce to you on what my employer project is all about. The employer project gives us the opportunity to learn real hands on experience while still studying. My college INTI, has built a relationship with a company called MIMOS to develop a programme that enables students to work on actual business case studies and relevant industry problems which is called the employer project.
Through this employer project, we are presented with immediate challenges faced by businesses, and we are required to work in teams to develop and present our proposals. This task enables us to learn employability skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and communication. It also equips us with real experiences in meeting, managing and presenting before top management representatives from our employer companies.
MIMOS (RecoMedia)
INTI International College has collaborated with this company called MIMOS that has come up with a new device called RecoMedia which is known as WPS (Wireless Presentation System) which enables presenter to break free from any cable. It transforms display devices, such as projector and LCD TV into a collaborative display for efficient meeting setup. It enables anyone to present content from a laptop, smartphone or tablet wirelessly to the display.
Students Task
The WPS devise was given to us to experiment on the functions and the effectiveness of the device. We were required by MIMOS to address ways to improve the user friendliness of the WPS and to provide feedbacks on the convenience and difficulties while functioning the WPS device. We were also given the opportunity to propose on how to make the device more effective and efficient.
Objective
The objective of our Employer Project was designed in a pragmatic way with the aim of developing students with problem solving skills, communication skills and collaborative skills where we work in teams to solve real industry projects and problems from real employers. This project is to prepare us for greater employability and the end-goal is to make us prepared with good insights on the industry, confident in the job roles and armed with the expected skills and to be successful in the chosen career.
My Team
These are my team mates. We as a group of eight had been assigned to carry out this project by MIMOS. Starting from the left is Wengku, Chi Hoe, Agas, Jian Hong, Jen, Dhanuushaa, myself and Nishat.
What Does MIMOS Do?
MIMOS is Malaysia’s national Applied Research and Development Centre. As a strategic agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), MIMOS contributes to raising Malaysia’s competitiveness by pioneering market creation for Malaysian technopreneurs through patentable technology platforms, products and solutions. Over the past 12 years, MIMOS has filed more than 2,000 Intellectual Properties in various technology domains and across key socio-economic areas. Serving a central role in Malaysia’s transformation journey and ICT Vision, MIMOS endeavours to create a culture of innovation by nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in the spirit of smart partnerships and inclusive growth models and strategies.
Kick-Off Session
Before we proceeded with our Capstone project, we had a kick-off session that was conducted by Dr. Choong who is the producer and developer of the RecoMedia. Moreover, Dr. Choong has been working with MIMOS for 9 years. He held the position of a Senior Staff Researcher for about 6 years. Dr Choong as well as his team mate Mr Boon Choong Foo, briefed us about this whole project and gave us useful information which were beneficial for our project. He also taught us in detailed about the insights of the RecoMedia WPS device. Last but not least, he demonstrated the whole session using the WPS device and also gave us the opportunity to test it out live. The kick-off session ended off with Q&A discussion followed by a group photo with Dr. Choong. Below are the pictures taken during the Kick-Off session.

During our kick-off session, we were told to come up with four detailed reports for us to deliver feedback to MIMOS. User experience is one of them.
We were given the WPS device to experience 3 important aspects of WPS which are: a) Setting up of WPS b)Sharing of content among users with different devices c) Moderating a meeting session using WPS.
My team used several devices with different brands such as MacBook, Windows MSI and Android phones to test out if every device could function effectively. Unfortunately, different brands and devices functioned differently. We noticed that all the iPhones was having difficulty to connect with the WPS. On the other hand, the Samsung phone could connect to the WPS device smoothly. Click on the Word Document icon to view further details of our user experience.
2. Comparison Report

After having our hands on experience with the WPS device, my team and I did a comparison study on features of various WPS brands around the world. Our objective was to list the different category of features of the WPS brands, to identify the special features of different WPS brands, to compare MIMOS WPS with other brands, to present findings to MIMOS on difference of MIMOS WPS with other brands in terms of strength and weaknesses of the features and lastly, to suggest improvement on MIMOS WPS features.
The WPS brands that we researched and compared on are Barco, Extron Sharelink200, IPEVO, AWIND, Mimosa, EZCast and Newline Trucast. Furthermore, we compared between the prices, security, functions, hardware and reviews. During this research, I had gained so much of digital knowledge.
3. SWOT Analysis Report

My team and I brained stormed together to come up with a successful SWOT Analysis report to make a summary analysis of external and internal factors for RecoMedia. Our purpose to do the SWOT analysis is to prepare strategic options for an example, risks and problems to solve.
Moreover, through this analysis, we can determine the diagnosis of RecoMedia. For an example, strengthening the positive points, indicating which points should be improved, chances of growth and increasing opportunities. 4. Business Vertical Report

Last but not least, my team and I were required to do a business vertical report for RecoMedia. The purpose of this report is to suggest innovative practical usage or application of WPS in various vertical markets. The objective is for us to understand the benefits of WPS, to conduct further internet search such as customer reviews and various websites and lastly to explore how WPS can be used effectively in various business vertical.
We researched on business verticals such as lifestyle, health care, entertainment, education, travelling, shopping, security, manufacturing and business. These verticals were divided equally among each other to conduct and provide the best answers for our report.

This is a glimpse of my trial presentation with my partner. We presented to our lecturer, Mr. Ihsan. He gave us few tips on how to improvise on our presentation before we presented to Dr. Choong.
This is the final presentation video that was gracefully presented to Dr. Choong who is the producer and developer of RecoMedia. We had successfully presented our research on the problems and solutions of the WPS device. We believe that we had done our best as a team to present our findings on RecoMedia.
Reflection
This Capstone project has encouraged me to understand the underlying problem, hold productive discussions, and articulate solutions to the employer. With the steady guidance of my lecturer and employer, I did not only overcome the initial growing challenges, but also exceeded expectations by coming up with innovative ideas to the employer. Moreover, working with professionals who are currently in the field to solve a real-world business issue gave me good insight into the industry.
I also highly appreciate to get the chance to learn first-hand about what is going on in the technological world. As a result, I was taught what marketable skills networking are expected to know in order to maximise our employability.
This project has also given me the opportunity to develop various core competencies which will benefit me in the future. For an example :

A huge thank you to our determined lecturer Mr. Ihsan for guiding us through this Capstone project. Every week he is dedicated in delivering knowledge to us and to ensure we understood well by writing detailed information on the board with drawings and also through his presentation slides. As the pictures are shown, he explained to us our weekly tasks and made sure everyone was on track.
